Dr. Helal A. Syed, known to his patients as “Doc H,” hails from the Bronx, New York. Although he has lived in various locations throughout his life, he now calls San Antonio, Texas his home.

Dr. Syed earned his Bachelor’s degree in Human Evolutionary Biology with English Honors from Harvard University. During his time at Harvard, he dedicated himself to understanding the intricacies of human physiology and movement. Following his undergraduate studies, he taught middle school science for a couple of years before obtaining his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, where he conducted research on pathways of inflammation in the brain.

Dr. Syed completed his urology residency at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium, where he also conducted research on microscopic hematuria. He then pursued a fellowship in pediatric urology at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where his research focused on novel imaging techniques in pediatric urology. He also completed coursework in clinical, biomedical, and translational research at the University of Southern California during his fellowship.

Dr. Syed professional interests and areas of expertise encompass all aspects of general pediatric urology. He is an active member of the American Urological Association (AUA).

Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Syed enjoys spending quality time with his wife, daughter, and their two dogs. He is an avid motorsports enthusiast and enjoys riding motorcycles in his leisure time.
